Where is the best place to buy wholesale food?

Where can I get the best value on bulk foods? Specifically as a "Survival" food. I’m talking a year supply for one adult or more between 500 to 4000$. The way the economy is going, I wouldn’t be surprised if the dollar completely collapses ;-) . Better safe than sorry as we enter into this depression.

I have a year supply of food..no kidding..the way the economy is doing we are going to end up eating the cat or so.
I bought all my food in a place located in utah www.beprepared.com they have everything you need to food storage, I thing the mormons have a culture of food storage and they have everything set up for this..dry milk, whole grains, already prepared food and water supply…their prices are the best because everything they sale is oriented to last for years in storage. Costco is good, Sams, etc…the thing with them is to check out the due dates of the products .
Just google..food storage…emergy essentials and you will get a good list of resources..emergency essentials base in utah Salt Lake City Utah is the one that I has been using to buy grains..milk..and this products could last for 10-40 years. Hope this help

3 Steps to Travel Asia Mini Guide

I travel quiet extensively between many countries, typically business International travel. I thought I would share some travel tips, I have encountered, as we are going through some interesting times. I hope to save the traveler some time and headaches, as each country, or airport for that matter is changing security measures in many different ways.

Now , I typically go on International Travel , so I experience changes between countries. When taking any domestic flights, I even experience different security measures implemented within the same country, but at different airports. So time travel can be challenging, and I hope these simple steps can save you from a bit of frustration, understanding, everything is focused on passenger safety right now as 1st priority.

Step 1. In the Beginning :
From many years of International Travel, I found it best to book my own ticket online. This allowed a far better price. American Express Travel offered a nice insurance coverage as well.

Now, I have switched back, and use my original travel agent in Los Angeles for all World Travel. He has access to far greater information than I could get online. The reason is simple, I can use my cell phone, direct call from Hong Kong, have him check or make any latest Airline Travel changes on his PC, confirm connecting flights, delays, etc., and even make real time changes, plus all travel services.

You may think the cost of a international cell phone call is expensive, but actually not for information , time saved, and general safety. I am on a 1st name basis, he understands clearly any questions in under a minute, and done in a few brief minutes. So, possibly a $6.00 call, compared to a bottle of Aspirin at $5.00, your choice.

Now, sounds the same, but here is the trick, he receives so much feedback on different flights, airports, extended security time in different countries, I may have missed a connecting flight in many cases if I did not know this before hand. It is not all about Discount Travel any more.

For example typically your check in for International Travel is 2 hours in advance. I check in 4 hours early, and then have leisure time after customs, check in bags, etc. Also travel light, have a carry on with one extra shirt, small things in case your bag gets delayed, this is now more sensitive, and can happen, consider some simple needs to get you by for a day.

Step 2: Know Your Connecting Flights :Make sure you understand all connecting flights prior final destination point. Here is what can happen, first stay with the same airline company, and the same plane, since probably just a flight crew change, and refueling, . That means the Jet is already there, verses pending another incoming Jet, with possible unforeseen delays. Avoid changing Airlines for any connecting flights if at all possible. Greatest chance for delays, and missed connecting flights.

Example ; I depart from LAX for International Travel, with a stop over in Narita, Japan, which is a very common route .
Today, if they tell me it is only a 1 hour stop over at Narita, I get very concerned, as when you arrive, you are in transit, but are required, and routed back through a full security line, which may not make that 1 hour stop over, and you miss the connecting flight.

Usually you will have 2 hour lay over. Now your agent should be aware of recent changes, tightening of security checks, and may help you book a longer , say 4 hour lay over, 2 for the added security check, alone, for International Travel. Now that sounds painful, but if you miss the connecting flight, you may have to spend the night, a 15 hour delay.

I hope this makes sense, its already happened to me, and you are under tight security spending the night, not allowed in the city since considered a transit passenger, and have not actually entered the country formally.

Step 2: How to Fly: Well, sounds odd, but simply what class to fly in. When on a business trip, like most, take the Business Class on International Travel if allowed. The reason for this, is not the extra food, I usually eat very light while flying , however do work while flying with my Laptop, need a connection for a battery charge, and in some cases there are internet connections in addition for a fee. This offers a larger space to spread out my work, books, papers, etc.

Flying on vacation, I am over 6 foot, so the thought of an economy class seat, no knee space is painful. However, most airlines have improved, I now have a much more comfortable seat, leg room, and typically get the isle seat, or by emergency exit when possible. One simple statistic to remember; if a jet was to go down, the back of the plane has the best chance for Survival, just something to consider.

Step 3: Travel Destination Safe: First off, take an airline that is well known, good history record, and follows FAA regulations. This sounds so basic we tend to take this for granted, as if standard practice for all, but not true in many cases, there are many new startups, or foreign companies that tend to cut corners to make profit.

Why would I mention this simple advise, well I experienced a near fatal crash with my wife, who was very scared to fly, and to date will not fly. We took a very large twin turbo prop, on a simple one way 45 minute domestic flight. Perfect day, blue skies, no clouds, flight was full with business people, a variety of travelers retuning home in the big city. Note, Turbo props usually level off at 20,000 feet, Jets, 35,000 feet or more with calm air allowing a smoother ride.

The pilot in his own language, which I can understand, stated there was a brief stop over in another city, lots of mountains, and wind. This was never mentioned, nor written on the ticket ? Briefly, he took us head on into a typhoon, nearly crashed due to shear wind conditions, well, that is all I am going to state, I think you get the message.

Point made is this, fly with someone who follows FAA regulations, invests into maintenance requirements, and follows guidelines that conform to safety requirements, especially passengers. This sounds simple, but once out of the USA, not everyone follows these guidelines, so it may save your life. There are airlines out there, real low cost, but I just will not fly with them, as many of my business associates likewise, with extremley bad experiences. Last, the airline I almost crashed in, went out of business in less than 6 months from startup.

I hope these important Tips help give you some inside info on how to safely plan a trip, and avoid unexpected delays, things that may even save your life, especially on long International Travel adventures. Times are changing now for travel everywhere.

Detox Diets

Detox or detoxification is the natural body process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from your body.  In this process the toxic substances that you ingest through food and water and pollutants in the environment are transformed and broken-down into less harmful compounds and excreted through stools, sweat and urine.

Detox also includes those toxins which are the by products of the body through normal body function such as ammonia.  A toxin is any substance that if it builds up can harm the body.

In order to aid your body in this detox process, you can follow a detox diet.  This diet is used on a short term basis to help your body cleanse. Detox diets are beneficial because they generally only allow organic fruits and vegetables so eliminating chemicals that you might otherwise ingest from food sources.

A detox diet generally excludes foods like meat that take time or are hard to digest. This frees up your body energy to put into the detoxification and cleansing process.

Food Choices

Food choices are centred on foods that provide ample amounts of vitamins, minerals, nutrients and powerful antioxidants that are needed for detox. All foods must contain a high fiber to help with the elimination of toxins by increasing the frequency of bowel movements.

Plenty of fresh juices, green smoothies, soups and broths and pure water are included to provide enough fluid to help increase the excretion of toxins by way of the urine.

The majority of toxic chemical substances that are harmful to us cling to the fat tissues in the body. It becomes their partner for Survival in our system that is why fat tissues are synonymous with the increase of body toxins.

Detox for weight loss

Researchers have discovered that people who have problems controlling their weight can often loose it and keep it off once they detox chemicals. Of course they have to practise having a healthy food choices and a healthy lifestyle in order to maintain  weight loss.

Detox diets have many issues and skeptics have raised many controversial issues regarding them. Detox has been practiced in various forms for thousand of years but modern researchers have proved time and time again that you can benefit from Detox diets that support the detox processes in the body.

Some are very restricted and demand a lot of will power and resolve. But with the knowledge we now have about how the body detoxifies it is not necessary to starve on a detox diet.

SOG SEAL Pup vs. Camillus Pilot Survival Knife / Ontario 499 ASEK review & demonstration

Which knife is better, the SOG SEAL Pup or the Camillus Pilot Survival Knife?

They’re similar in size but differ greatly in weight and blade material. The Camillus is much heavier due to the awesome butt cap on the handle, and the SOG’s serrations are far superior to the saw teeth on the ASEK.

The Camillus blade is 4-7/8″ long and is made of 1095 tool steel, which is easy to sharpen. The saw teeth on the spine work well on wire and nails, but fall short on cutting metal and plastic sheeting. The size of the blade and the protective metal casing on the sheath make this a safe choice for all skill levels.

The Camillus Pilot Survival Knife is on the “must have” list of many survivalists for three simple reasons: It’s a comfortable, safe, and reliable survival tool.

The SOG SEAL Pop is light, balanced, and tough. The blade is made of AUS 6 S/S, which makes it hard to get a good edge in the field. That said, it maintains an edge better than a softer blade.

I’d recommend the SOG SEAL Pup knife to anyone looking for a decent camping/utility knife. A straight edge would be better for bushcraft, but for urban survival applications, the serrations will gnaw right through metals, plastics, nylons, and other synthetics with ease. The protective sheath and managable size make this a safe knife for all skill levels.

Which knife proves best? Watch the video and find out. Be sure to leave comments and a rating.

I just sold my Camillus 499 to survival instructor Paul Tarsitano of http://www.savealifeca.com. I’ll miss it, but I know Paul will put it to good use.

Types and Prevention of Bacteria

What is bacteria?

Bacteria are among the oldest living organisms on Earth, and are very small. Because the bacteria structure is so minute, it can only be seen through a microscope. Bacteria is commonly found in the ground, water and in other living organisms. While some types of bacteria can cause diseases and become harmful to the environment, animals and humans, others offer benefits that we likely could not live without.

Different Types Of Bacteria

Aerobic and anaerobic bacteria:
Bacteria are also classified based on the requirement of oxygen for their survival. Bacteria those need oxygen for their survival are called Aerobic bacteria and bacteria those do not require oxygen for Survival.

Staphylococcus Aureus

Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are present in the nasal passages, throats, hair and skin of 50 percent of healthy people, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Autotrophic and heterotrophic bacteria:
This is one of the most important classification types as it takes into account the most important aspect of bacteria growth and reproduction. Autotrophic bacteria (also known as autotrophs) obtain the carbon it requires from carbon-dioxide.

Listeria monocytogenes

Eating food contaminated with listeria bacteria can cause an infection called listeriosis, along with meningitis, encephalitis and intrauterine infections.

Food Safety Of Bacteria
Food Safety can no longer be ignored. Regularly the public learns of food borne illness outbreaks. Some are small in scale and others are large, nevertheless all jolt public confidence in our industry. Moreover, very few operations survive the aftershock of a food poisoning incident.

Always wash cutting boards, knives and other utensils with hot soapy water after they come in contact with raw meat, poultry and seafood. Then sanitize with 1 teaspoon liquid chlorine bleach per quart of water.

Make sure there are no cold spots in food (where bacteria can survive) when cooking in a microwave oven. For best results, cover food, stir and rotate for even cooking. If there is no turntable, rotate the dish by hand once or twice during cooking.

Bacteria Live on Human Skin

When you hear the word “bacteria,” most people people either get a disgusted look on their face or proceed to find the nearest anti bacteria cleaner. What most people don’t know is that one of the places with the most bacteria is their own skin.

Types of bacteria found on the body

Bacteria are often known as the causes of human and animal disease. However, not all bacteria are pathogens.

Bacteria put the tang in yogurt and the sour in sourdough bread; bacteria help to break down dead organic matter; bacteria make up the base of the food web in many environments.

We also benefit from the helpful bacteria that live inside of us. It is estimated that between 5,000 and 10,000 different types of bacteria inhabit the human body. In the large intestine a complex microflora community synthesizes vitamins such as vitamin K, folic acid and biotin. Within days after birth, newborns are colonized by Lactobacilli, a group of helpful bacteria that convert milk protein to lactic acid. The bacteria remain present throughout life. These microbes are widely used in the production of sour milks, yogurt and cheese.
